Mr Manab Mukherjee, minister for small scale enterprises and textile department of West Bengal, spoke to Mr Shankersingh Vaghela, union minister for textile for setting up a ‘Silk Park’ in Malda.
At a meeting with officers of Malda, Mr Mukherjee said that even though there is no provision for a silk park in the Centre's policy framework, it can still allot funds for its development under the head of textile park. As of now, Mr Vaghela, has asked for the proposal to be sent to him.
The proposed project was conceived in April 2007 and at the meeting it was decided to send the idea of ‘Silk Park’ to the union textile ministry with a view to get sanction from the centre for the funds.
In the mean time, the state department of textile would prepare a project report on the ‘Silk Park’ with the help of a consultancy firm.
Mr Mukherjee also paid a visit to a weaving cluster which is still in its formulative stage at Sattari and the cocoon market in Kaliachak and suggested the district officials of directorate of textile to prepare a plan of infrastructure development with facilities of modern technology.
