USA: Dewi Collection Offers New Selection of Handbags

Since 1990 the Maryanne Webber Gallery has been known for featuring fine one-of-a-kind wearable art, accessories. The gallery is featuring new selections of natural, eco friendly, ladies handbags from the Dewi Collection which is based in Palm Beach, Florida.

Dewi President, Trudy McConnell works on new designs that can translate into the ancient Balinese wood carving techniques and then combines the carving with historical woven designs that will appeal to the American market. The new selections have an emphasis on nature which Canadian born McConnell has drawn from her childhood experiences on the Bay of Fundy.    She mixes nature with whimsy as seen in her new creations of carved tops featuring Playing Dolphins, and a crab called 'Crabby Bill', Wild Roses, and Orchids.

Each piece takes 2-3 weeks for the artisans to weave and carve with the end result being each piece has its own distinctive character. Next it is smoked over coconut husks and honey till the handbag reaches a rich honey color. "Our attention to detail and the preservation of ancient techniques keeps the handbags in demand and they are quickly snapped up by fashionable women who enjoy wearing finely designed art accessories," said McConnell.

The Dewi Collection supports Balinese Artisans while preserving rural village culture through ancient designs.
