KADAPA: The Central and State Governments have initiated several measures for the development of the handloom sector, Joint Collector Girija Sankar said.
Speaking at the inaugural session of a meeting of sellers and buyers of yarn, he said the quality of raw material should be good to get a better price for the finished product. Hence, quality yarn should be supplied to weavers at reasonable prices, he said.
The meeting was jointly organised by the Handlooms and Textiles Department and NHDC. Regional deputy director of Handlooms and Textiles NRK Reddy, assistant director Jagjeevan, NHDC assistant secretary Prabhakar, general manager Jayaraman and others were present.
Girija Sankar emphasized the need for promoting awareness among 75,000 weaver families in the district about various development schemes being implemented by the government for their uplift.
National Handlooms Development Corporation (NHDC) manager Ansari said NHDC has initiated measures to supply quality raw material to weavers.
Weavers and representatives of yarn mills from four southern states attended the meeting. An exhibition on different varieties of yarn was also held on the occasion.
