INDIA: Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla show 'Pink City' inspired collection

JAIPUR: Designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are presently hogging the limelight in Rajasthan's "Pink City" showcasing their latest summer collection as part of the ongoing Rajasthan Day festival.

As the name suggests, the collection has got its inspiration from the grandeur, architecture and colours that are integral to the city.

Pink is the predominant colour of the show. Chikan, Jari, mirror work and Bandhej-the typical trademark of the duo-- have been used in abundance. The show is drawing NRIs, foreigners and also Indians from across the country.

Earlier, Rajasthan's Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia said that the collection would attract a large number of foreign customers.

"There is something for everybody. I love what they wore. I love the idea, the sense of colours. It is something that people would go wild over in the west," she said.

The audiences at the show got a cherry on the cake, when they saw film star Abhishek Bachchan amongst them. Bachchan walked the ramp in a specially designed 'Sherwani' based on Peacock getup on Tuesday.

The duo has been invited by the Government of Rajasthan to show their collections at the Jaipur Festival. They were jubilant over the overwhelming response from the audience.

"The 'Pink City' collection special is dedicated to Jaipur. I think the show went off very well with such a big audience," said Sandeep Khosla. "It was a very good audience," added Abu Jani.

"It was a very good collection. It was a perfect blend of modern and traditional dresses. So, I liked it very much," said Shikha, a viewer.

'The boys', as the twosome of Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla are known in the fashion circuit, can be considered among first names in that made it big, by way of success, attention, fame and hype. It is a creative alliance that exudes attitude and talent.

Abu-Sandeep duo is not only a hot favourite of the Bollywood stars like the Bachchans, Juhi Chawla, Dimple Kapadia... but also of Hollywood stars like Bond girl Sophie Marceau and Dame Judi Dench and many.

Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla can be considered among the first names in the Indian fashion industry to make it big internationally, by way of success, attention, fame and hype. It is a creative alliance that exudes attitude and talent.

They were one of the first to display their creations at Harrods in Britain. Ever since, the Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla show is a much awaited, though not so frequent event.

Though they lack in professional training, the duo are known to push ethnic fashion to the limit, almost to the dictates of their fancies. So confident are they about their work that they claim that they do not make garments, but heirlooms.

As couturiers, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla have left an indelible print on the Indian and international fashion circuit. Much more than just designers to their clients, there's no question that Abu and Sandeep have friends in high places. Both designers have a predominantly white wardrobe, rarely opting for colour when they dress themselves Sandeep went to Don school and Abu studied at St. Xavier's School and then Elphinstone College. Sandeep's first job was that of an apprentice at a sports goods factory; while Abu began his career as an assistant to Xerxes Bhathena.
