INDIA: Textile consortium to visit Kannur handloom units

COIMBATORE: A high-level team consisting of officials from the Office of the Commissioner of Handlooms and Textiles will visit the textile cluster in Kannur next month. The visit has been arranged under the cluster development programme of the Textiles Committee for the handloom units in Chennimalai.

A committee official said that a team of seven to eight members would visit Kannur next month to study the consortium model of handloom cooperative societies and their export activities. The aim was to help the Chennimalai societies take up direct exports.

Currently, the societies in Chennimalai produced home textile goods worth Rs. 15 crores to Rs. 20 crores a month. However, these were for indirect exports, the official said.
