KARACHI: Cotton arrivals in Pakistan have reached 14.152 million bales till February 15 up 50.72 per cent against corresponding period last year.
Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) in its fortnightly report released the other day stated that 14.152 million bales arrived in the ginning factories of the country against 9.624 million bales last year.
Of these, Punjab contributed 11.184 million bales against 7.401 million bales last year; Sindh contributed 2.967 million bales including 29,933 bales of Balochistan.
Punjab recorded an overall increase of 51.13 per cent against its last years’ production while Sindh noted an increase of 49.20 per cent to its previous years’ arrivals till the same period.
Meanwhile, out of the total arrivals of 2.967 bales, 2.880 million bales were pressed, 556,400 bales were sold to the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP), 238,226 bales were sold to exporters and 1.887 million bales were sold to textiles.
According to Trading Corporation of Pakistan data, it had procured nearly 1.5 million bales from the ginners so far.
The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association report further stated that the ginners had unsold stock 949,473 bales against 1.489 million bales last year.
