EGYPT: Trade minister pushes for quality control

QALYUBIYYA: Egyptian Industry and Trade Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid encouraged the local textile industry to improve product quality and competitiveness while touring the Qalyubiyya Governorate, one of Egypt’s most important industrial areas. Rashid’s move was prompted by the signing of the Qualified Industry Zones (QIZ) Agreement with the US and Israel.

The textile industry is considered a stronghold in the Egyptian economy in terms of employment, investment, credit and export earnings. QIZ is meant to enable certain local goods with some Israeli input to be exported to the US without paying any customs duties.
