Vouchers of Vietnam's garment and textile imports will be verified from Marh by the US's Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to find out any purposeful misclassification of these imports to earn quotas.
Accordingly, Cat. 350 and Cat. 650 may be under the check.
With this measure, CBP wants to stop illegal goods lots and find out any fraud papers, especially Certificate of Origin (C/O). Also, CBP will require importers to declare some vouchers when shipments land in US ports even though declaration to these goods lots need not be done in writing.
Last year, several Vietnam's garment and textile consignments were stopped at US ports when the native customs offices did not implement import procedures as quota figures between the US Customs and Vietnam's Ministry of Trade were not consistent. Consequently, MoT had to temporarily halt visa grant to seven apparel items.
In its latest check carried out last June, CBP collected USD1.2 billion worth of tax arrears.
