Official ceremonies for the inauguration of Pearl Touch sewing factory were held at the factory's compound in the San Andres Export Processing Zone.
General Manager of Pearl Touch Annie Sun says the factory, which employs 140 Belizeans, has been in operation informally since the end of last year. The Factory produces sports wear for the United States and Canadian markets.
Corozal Bay Area Representative Vildo Marin was among the invited guests at the inauguration ceremonies and in addressing the gathering, thanked the owners of Pearl Touch Sewing Factory for the confidence they have shown in the Corozal economy and for bringing jobs to the area.
Mr. Marin noted that an estimated $25,000 is pumped into the Corozal economy every two weeks, as a direct result of the employment provided to the area residents.
Other invited guests at Saturday's inaugural ceremonies included Prime Minister Said Musa, Florencio Marin and Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize Charles Tsai.
