The Event - Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2007The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2007 (WIFW) is all set for India’s biggest B2B fashion trade event ‘WILLS LIFESTYLE INDIA FASHION WEEK Autumn/Winter 2007’ being scheduled here in the capital on March 21-25, 2007. Rathi Jha, Director General, FDCI commented that the council is proud to announce 87 participating member fashion designers, currently who are busy getting their collection ready, the highest ever number of participating designers at a fashion event of any kind in the country. Atul Chand, vice-president-marketing, ITC’s Lifestyle Retailing informed that they are committed for taking WIFW to newer heights and are looking forward to the upcoming Autumn/Winter 2007 edition from March 21-26, 2007. Preeti Singh, CEO, PDM said that WIFW having set new standards is poised for upcoming event and further are planning several initiatives along with our partners and sponsors to ensure that designers and buyers have an even better business experience. WILLS LIFESTYLE INDIA FASHION WEEK Autumn/Winter 2007 is scheduled at The Hotel Ashok in the city from March 21-25 with an additional day for business on March 26, 2007. The event is set to preview the styles of as many as 87 designers for the next season and boasts of attendance from over 80 international buyers from 19 countries, besides 100 domestic buyers. The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), president Rathi Vinay Jha said that there are around 87 designers who would be showcasing their collections. However, not all of them are ramp shows. There would be around 56 ramp shows. The popular names like Maria Luisa from Paris, Bloomingdales, Jashanmal from Kuwait and SunMotoyama from Japan would be shopping at the fashion fair this time around; whereas familiar names like Ritu Kumar, Rohit Bal and Tarun Tahiliani would feature in the premier event, while seven new designers are debuting with their Autumn-Winter collection. The designers are geared up to make most of the business opportunities that would come their way during the week-long event which has its eyes set on becoming an event in the fashion circuit that focuses as much on business as on designs. The event is entirely about the business of fashion and not merely a party and designer needs to strike a brilliant balance between fashion and business. The week would also see buyers and agents from renowned international fashion houses like Le Bon Marche from Paris, Anthropologie Inc from the US and La Rinascente from Italy scout for lucrative deals with the designers. The domestic buyers include Ogaan, Kimaya, Evoluzione, Carma, Shoppers' Stop and Samsara, among others. "Both designers as well as buyers are increasingly getting interested in the India Fashion Week. The event is growing slowly. This year we have had more designers evincing interest, more stalls and newer models," Jha said.Interestingly, there are also designers from neighbouring countries and South America, who have expressed keenness in participating in the fashion week.
