Lakme India Fashion Week 2003 :: Tarana Rajpal

Traipse down to Lions gate, Bombay, step into 'ensemble' and you will behold an ultra feminine and delicate collection. Artwork t5"Ssed ensembles elegantly embellished in either floral or geometric motifs taken from carpets; Mughal paintings and architectures beckon you, These are the creations of Tarana Rajpal Masand, a designers who believes in highlighting the personality of her clients on an individual level.

Winner at the first ever Indian Smirnoff International Fashion Awards (SIFA '94), Tarana graduated in designing from SNDT, Bombay, An apprentice with some of the leading names from the world of Indian haute couture like Abu Jani - Sarldeep Khosla and Sangeeta Desai, she later joined MTV as a stylist for Malaika Arora, Not one to be satisfied with her accomplishments, Tarana decided to launch her label. Her first collection at 'ensemble' was a total sellout and ever since there has been no looking back for Tarana. A designer of women's wear, Tarana believes clothing is like the wrapping paper of the human body and should be complimentary to its content, Her label "Tarana" represents the multifaceted lifestyle of the women of today who use her styles as platform to enhance and express their beauty and personality. Her style is distinctive -soft and sensuously appealing, "Fashion is after all, about look, feel and attitude," says Tarana.

Tarana designs Indian and Indo-western outfits for women. While weaves and textures are significant to her style, pure fabrics like georgettes, raw silk, and brocades are Tarana's all-time favorites. Tarana's signature is prominent in the feminine fit and flow of her silhouettes and the sensual chic of her ensembles. Catering to the fashion aficionados, Tarana's clients include Shyamla Vijay Amritraj, Lakshmi Nair and Meena Raheja amongst others. Tarana retails from Ensemble Bombay and Delhi.

Debuts At LIFW
This year the Lakme India Fashion week will see designer Tarana Rajpal Masand's collection for the very first time. At the fashion week, Tarana plans to present ensembles using modern fabrics with sensuous and contemporary cuts. A graduate in fashion design from SNDT, Bombay, Tarana began her career as an apprentice with some of the leading names from the world of Indian haute couture like Abu Jani - Sandeep Khosla and Sangeeta Desai. She later joined MTV as a stylist for Malaika Arora, before launching her label "Tarana" at Ensemble.

Winner at the first ever Smirnoff International Fashion awards (SIFA), Tarana's label represents the multifaceted lifestyle of the women of today. The wardrobe this season from the designer comprises four collections - the first two are pret-a-porter and the remaining two are diffusion and consist mainly of If!do-western and Indian silhouettes.

The ensembles remain very fitted as they em,erge in an interesting array of short and knee length kurtas, cigarette pants, corsets. Short dresses and a lot of feminine blouses. Fall/Winter 2003/04 is a season of upbeat hopes. And keeping with the trends, Tarana's color palette comprises all bright colors with a lot of reds and blacks.

Tarana's collection for fall winter 2003/04 is for the woman of today who likes to be comfortable yet makes an impact wherever she goes. Neeta Ambani, Raveena Tandon, Simone Khan, Shyamla Vijay Arnritraj. lakshmi Nair and Meena Raheja amongst others are some of Bombay's creme-de-la-creme who are Tarana's clientele.
