Lakme India Fashion Week 2003 :: Malini Ramani
She has also recently been selected by the Government of India as one of the two designers chosen to revive and bring style into Khadi, Malini and her sister have a company in the US called 'Gimara', which exports accessories to the US, France, Italy and the UK. The label can be seen at prestigious stores such as Searle, Bloomingdales, Henri Bendel, Barneys, Walker Lansing, Betsey Johnson, Nordstorm and Stuart Weitzman. Currently selling shoes, apparel, handbags and assorted items of fashion under her own label in several prominent boutiques in India (Ensemble, Ogaan, Oak Tree, Camelot, Qutab Colonnade, Sosa's) and to private clients in Paris, Milan, London and New York, Malini describes her style as 'Rockstar meets Indian Princess'! A look that definitely gets you noticed. After returning from New York, where she studied Fashion
Merchandising and Buying at F.I.T (Fashion Institute of Technology), she
came back and tried here hand at a number of exciting and successful ventures
such as nightclubs, television and design. One of Malini's rules is to only create things that she would love to wear herself...she loves colour, shine, embroidery, plunging necklines, and lots of glamour. Think." Millennium Indian Love Goddess" She now sells in money leading stores allover the country and has 2 flagship stores of her own in Delhi and in Goa. She is infact the fist designer to open her own store in Goa (which is a second home to her). She loves designing dramatic resort wear with a "hippie-deluxe" edge to it which is what Goa represents to her. Her collections include everything that she may enjoy
from saris, handbags, sandals, denim jackets, halter tops, sexy dresses
and even wedding lengha's. She has been especially successful in appealing to younger clients and her label is very popular with many 'Bollywood' starlets. Mailini herself has been featured in noteworthy publications such as Elle, Marie Claire and Newsweek (who did a profile on the designer and her hlgherly publicized Indian Flag Dress). She is also a hot favorite with Cosmopolitan, who has featured her clothes on their cover numerous times. E-mail: malini_ramani/a> | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
