This session will explore the relevance of trendspotting for retailers. It will discuss how and where fashion trends can be found and how these are to be interpreted and incorporated in their ranges. The session will also illustrate some major trends for 2005.
Speaker – Harleen Sabharwal
Harleen Sabharwal is a noted fashion expert specializing in trend forecasting. She introduced thematic collections in line with international trends for Park Avenue, Raymonds and has conducted trends workshops at some of the leading fashion institutes including those at SNDT, B.D.Somani and Raheja College of Fashion.

| 28th April - Designer Brands – Looking Ahead |
ITC is a leading market innovator. In recent years it has entered the fashion category with Wills Lifestyle. However its premium-ness has been challenged with the entry of Tommy Hilfiger, Hugo Boss etc. This session will explore how ITC sees the future of fashion in the country, the role of designers and the possibility and potential of tie up with a designer.
Speaker – Chitranjan Dar
Chitranjan Dar is the Chief Executive of Lifestyle Retailing Business Division of ITC Limited. This Division is best known for its Wills Brand of Apparel and John Players range of men's wear. He has also been on the Board of Directors of Bhadrachalam Paperboards Ltd. He is a qualified Mechanical Engineer and a management graduate.

| 29th April - Designer Prêt – The Shoppers Stop Experience |
With the launch of Buzz, the designer wear section, a significant retailer like Shoppers Stop is putting its weight behind what it sees as a growing opportunity. The speakers will talk about the genesis of Buzz, their approach to marketing of designer prêt and what they see as the future of designer brands. The session would cover their process of selecting designerwear, highlighting what has and has not worked for Shoppers Stop.
Speakers – Govind Shrikhande and Sumit Chandna
Govind Shrikhande is Director Buying and Merchandising with Shoppers Stop. A management graduate from Symbiosis, Pune, he has also worked with Mafatlal, Johnson & Johnson, Arvind Mills and Bombay Dyeing. He was part of the team responsible for creating the Denim Revolution in India.
Sumit Chandna is currently Category Manager with Shoppers Stop. A NIFT graduate, he was also part of the team involved in implementing Shoppers' Stop's ERP Solution– in Merchandising, Retail, and Distribution.

The session will illustrate some current world-wide trends. It will also explore the role and relevance of the Indian aesthetic in the context of global fashion.

India is now a part of the global map. While ideas and trends are absorbed from other cultures, there is also a substantial export of ideas, product and services from India. What actually defines the Indian design signature? This session explores the concept from different points of view. A designer who focuses on exports and a traditional revivalist will discuss the topic.
Speakers – Ritu Kumar and David Abraham
Ritu Kumar, one of India's foremost designers,has developed a unique style of her own, reflecting the ancient traditions of Indian craftsmanship in a contemporary vocabulary.
David Abraham, a graduate of the National Institute of Design, is the creative director of Abraham & Thakore, a Delhi based design resource for ready to wear clothing, fashion accessories and textile products for the home.

Fashion journalism has a critical role to play in the spread and popularity of fashion. Fashion in Indian media is only beginning to come of age. The speaker will discuss the evolution of fashion journalism in the West and its perception of Indian fashion.
Speaker – Colin McDowell
Colin McDowell is recognised as one of the most authoritative fashion commentators in the world. The author of sixteen books, he is Senior Fashion Writer for The Sunday Times Style section and is Chairman of The Costume Society of Great Britain.
His book, McDowell's Directory of Twentieth Century Fashion has become so much the standard work on modern fashion designers that it is referred to as ‘The Bible' within the fashion industry. As the New York Times said, “fashion addicts probably can't live one minute more without McDowell's Directory.”

The speaker will explore how fashion is evolving internationally. She will talk about the issues being faced by designers / brands in USA and will highlight the process by which new designers can hope to make a mark .
Speaker – Fern Mallis
Fern Mallis is the Executive Director of 7 th on Sixth and Vice President of IMG. Ms. Mallis is widely credited with the creation of 7 th on Sixth, Inc., which produces Olympus Fashion Week for American women's and men's fashion shows twice a year in New York. As Executive Director of the CFDA from 1991-2001, Ms. Mallis furthered the organization's original charter, which is, in part, to promote American fashion as a “recognized branch of American art and culture”.
