Gauri & Nainika Karan, grew up inspired by old movie star glamour - actresses from the 50s and 60s such as such as Hedy Lamarr, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn - who they feel are prime examples of high style.
After studying at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, they soon created their own label, Magnetic Rag. The name was spontaneously derived from a piano piece composed in 1914 by Scott Joplin, the famous composer of ragtime. Magnetic Rag is a pręt label of day-into-evening wear crafted for young women.
LIFW collection 2004
At LIFW, they’ll be launching the label “Gauri & Nainika” which will be showcasing their fall-winter 2004-05 collection.
The collection is crafted around their core philosophy- that signifies youth, glamour and sophistication. Inspired by the glorious romantic look of both old Hollywood glamour and Grecian drapery, the collection is a mix of light dresses which are chic, feminine and sensual.
