Julie Kagti
I started SUTRA KNOTS ON CLOTH in 2001 at Bangalore to address the gap that I perceive in the Indian textile market and moved into garments that embody my belief in combining traditions of skill with 21st century India. Fashion has to engage, enhance and entertain. My clothes are contemporary aesthetic infused with a touch of humor.
Our products are hand-crafted. Most of the textiles and textures are created at the SUTRA workshop, giving us complete control over the look and the feel of the garment. My work with garments and home accessories highlights both these strengths.
Theme of the Collection: While sorting my treasured selection collected over the years from various ramblings…. on the beach and the countryside, I picked up a shell. The simple perfection of its shape, colour and texture got me musing over my new line to be The collection enhances multi-forms from Indian and eastern textile treatments like shibori dying patterns and kantha textured embroideries. The colors are inspired by natural elements like shell, stone, sand and earth which impart a natural freshness and remain timeless. Chiffon, silk, khadi and crepe are fabrics used to encourage a languorous and leisurely life. Our emphasis is on comfort and casual styling. The cuts are simple and constructed which gives maximum ease to the movement, the confidence of youth and the subtlety of experience.
