A break with Kapil Mehra`s (Orkay Textiles) export house- Genises of London kick started James Ferreira`s journey as a designer.Working his way through export firms and bored by mass production, he began to design for the movie stars.
Through Kishore and Kintu Bajaj`s `Badasaab` and `Firstlady` his exclusive and stylised garments were worn by ... Smita Patil, Tina Munim (Ambani), Shabana Azmi, Amitabh Bachchan and various others. He then began to sell under his own name/ label and his line was available at Glitterati, Melange, and various other designer outlets.
Preferring a one-to-one relationship with all his clients, he opted out of main stream fashion.
Now, with over 30 years of experience behind him, he has teamed up with entrepreneur Kunika Singh and opened their store called D'box and is participating in the Lakme Fashion Week 2006.
Theme of the Collection: The fabrics and the colours of rural Maharashtra have inspired James Ferreira`s collection Mumbai / Tokyo. Using the age old techniques of the East like bias cutting, draping, draw strings and origami, he has created a collection of neo-western classic looks. allowing fabric to flow and keeping seams to a minimal, his garments are sexy, simple and modern.
