Clive Rundle - Fashion Designer Profile

Born in Zimbabwe, bred in South Africa, Clive Rundle studied fashion in Johannesburg. He goes as a constructionist and not as a fashion designer and is consequently and subsequently known for his intricate structures. The inherent structuring of his patterns can lead the translation in any direction, frugal, avant garde, classical, elaborate and contemporary. His language is the language of beauty through meticulous use of form, line, colour and texture.

According to Clive, `As a constructionist, I like to work with the reflections of the spaces between the spaces, and these spaces between the space are for me the pulsation of life.`

Theme of the collection: This collection began with the idea that this, a single pattern, would be the construction that contained the full idea of the collection within it.

It would have built into it the ability to not only be a beautiful suit but also a sexy corset dress- a shirt and a full length evening dress- a pair of pants- all that is required to make up key pieces of a collection.

The sinews of this pattern and the sinews of ones body closely correlate. This is the way the patterns tension-design technique and detailing work. Every single pink ribbon becomes a working tunnel through which ribbon etc. would be pulled through not only to create a shape- but a simple gap in the tunnel would allow a ribbon to pass out and become a single bow on an entire garment.

Along the lengths of the tunnels any kind of detailing can be inserted not only for an asthetic but also for the mechanisms required of a corset
