"Memphire is a journey in time that leaps forward to an imagined Egypt, blanketed in mysticism of the future. The designs are made for women who have the power to control, transform, subdue and vanish at will,” said the designer.
It was an early recognition of his caliber for design when soon after graduating from National Institute of Fashion Technology and Central Saint Martins, London, Gaurav Gupta was awarded the 'Future of Couture' title by the Mayor of Rome at Altaroma Altamoda or the Rome Couture Fashion Week. Swiftly, his designs have been garnering global media attention and being carried on the covers of publications including Vogue, Elle, L'Officiel, Marie Claire, Femina, Nylon and Cosmopolitan among others.
The youngest couturier in the country, Gaurav's work and design language revolves around the study of the motion of fabric, lines, of the human anatomy and his core philosophy of challenging established ideas and definitions.. His work has been described as future primitive or futuristic with the reminiscence of a familiar memory.
